As part of the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerces Christmas by the Sea celebration (Nov. 30 Dec. 2), the Owls Head Transportation Museum will host its annual family holiday concert featuring the Midcoast Community Band. As part of the festivities, childrenof any ageare encouraged to bring their letters to Santa for a special Polar Air Mail Express pickup demonstration.
The fun starts at noon on Sunday as children will create their own holiday ornaments, some made from candy. At 1:00, everyone will step outside and all eyes will turn skyward as Santa Claus arrives from the North Pole in one of the Museums planes. Upon landing, he will meet with the children and answer their questions in the Museums auditorium.
Then, with help from Rocklands U.S. Postal Service mail carrier Mike Robishaw and one of Santas helpers, Karl Erickson, children will see how their letters actually reach Santa at the North Pole. All letters will be placed in a special Polar Air Mail Express bag, then scooped up (by plane) and delivered directly to the North Pole. This demonstration will take place outside on Runway 17.
Once the letters are safely on their way, Santa will lead the children back inside and introduce the Mid-Coast Community Band as they hold their annual holiday concert from 2:00 to 3:30. Museum admission is free all day, and the Museum Store will be open for convenient holiday shopping. Light refreshments will be served, and ample parking is available.
